Opened in 1998, Teatro Alfa is the finest new theater in Brazil. It is owned and operated by the Alfa foundation. Facilities include a 1200 seat proscenium theater, 200 seat recital hall, rehearsal room, and extensive support facilities. The proscenium theater is equipped for all performance types, with standard stage rigging, stage traps, large stage lighting system, orchestra pit lift, orchestra shell, and sound systems. The facilities will support international touring companies, locally produced opera and drama, symphonic music, and popular music. The natural acoustics are extraordinary, with far greater uniformity and presence than are typically found in proscenium theaters. Sao Paulo now has two beautiful world-class theaters for major performances, Teatro Municipal, built in 1912, and Teatro Alfa.
