Teatro Paramount - Santurce, Puerto Rico

The Puerto Rico Bureau of Lands undertakes renewal projects. As an economic stimulus to the central street of Santurce, one of the great old neighborhoods of San Jaun, the Bureau of Lands is restoring the Teatro Paramount. Originally designed with the capability for live performance, the stage was gradually turned into offices and storage space leaving the facility suitable only as a cinema. In this restoration the stage will be enlarged, returned to the full ability to present live performances, and the building behind the stage has been purchased to provide dressing rooms, rehearsal space and offices. The house curtain is planned to be embroidered with Golden Coqui (Eleutherodactylus Jasperi) the endangered tree frog indigenous to the high mountain rain forests south of San Juan, and with the bromeliad, Guzmania, in which they live. The project is under construction, the facade has been stabilized, interior structural work has been started, and the interior finishes and equipment are being bid.
